Jacob Schwandt is a Detroit-based jazz guitarist and producer. He has performed professionally since the age of 16 and has shared the stage with many well known artists including Joe Lovano, Danilo Perez, Wendell Harrison, Jerry McKenzie, Marion Hayden, Greg “Vibrations” Williams, and Pamela Wise, among others. Jacob is currently a member of Wendell Harrison’s group, Tribe, who perform regularly throughout Detroit. His recorded contributions can be heard on releases by Wendell Harrison, Pamela Wise, and Black Shampoo.
Jacob is a student of Steven Carryer and holds a BFA in Jazz Guitar Performance from Wayne State University. He believes that education is important and has dedicated his musical talents to teaching students of all ages, and to inspiring the next generation of musicians. He is currently working on two unique projects. Empyre Blue features all of Jacob’s original music in large group ensembles, pulling from jazz and funk influences. Jacob also produces a solo electronic and vocal set which he performs under the name Space Junky.
