Holly Matthews
GROSSE POINTE
Piano
Holly studied classical piano for six years at Interlochen Arts Academy—four years as a boarding scholarship student and two years privately with Charles Asche. She then moved to San Francisco, where she got her B.A. in English from San Francisco State University and her M.F.A. in Dance from Mills College. She was a ballet accompanist for 10 years at universities and professional ballet companies, including LINES Contemporary Ballet in San Francisco, and Pacific Northwest Ballet in Seattle. Holly has taught piano and/or dance for many years in various settings: privately, at studios, universities (Michigan State University, Eastern Michigan University), and University Liggett School.
Holly has completed the Level 1 piano pedagogy certification course through the Royal Conservatory of Music in Toronto. She is currently pursuing her M.M. in Piano Performance from EMU. She has created, and directs, a glockenspiel/xylophone music program for seniors at Beaumont Commons in Dearborn, and believes that music study can be rewarding, beneficial, and therapeutic for all ages and levels. She is an instructor of classical piano at Grosse Pointe Music Academy and provides a nurturing learning environment that seeks to foster a love of music in her students, which she feels is the foundation for learning.
